Darwin
Overview
Medilog Darwin is analysis software for holter monitors that measure heart rate and rhythm over a long period of time, say 24 hours. The software is used primarily by Anna Marie Marsh and John McAdam in the TMF.
The software is available from ScanMed Medical - details at http://www.scanmed.co.uk/products/categories/diagnostic-ambulatory-ecg/medilog-darwin-analysis-software
Contacts at ScanMed are
- Simon Dickinson (simondickinson@…)
- Justin Davis (justindavis@…)
The software downloads the measurements from the SD card from the monitor device. It saves the information into a recordings directory and a Firebird database. The recordings directory and Firebird database may either be stored locally (for the server) or remotely (for the clients).

Installation
There is a client-server configuration, on machines connected to the University network.
Server
The Server is installed in the TMF exercise suite, on University PC cv-0171. This comprises the Firebird database server, the Darwin analysis tools and the necessary drivers and reader software to allow holter monitors to be connected to the PC either directly over USB or via a USB mounted SD card reader. The server must have the license USB dongle connected for clients to be able to use the software.
Clients
The client package is installed on three PCs: cv-0171 in the exercise suite, the PC in the echo room of the TMF, and the PC in the research fellows office on the cardiology admin corridor, first floor of the hospital.
Users who will be accessing the data need to have their user account given rights on the D:\Database\Recordings directory otherwise Darwin will be unable to open the recordings for them.
Configuration
Clients need to be configured with the following settings, to access the server correctly:
- Server: cv-0171
- Database: D:\Database\Evolution2.fdb
- Raw data: \\cv-0171\Recordings
- Central license server: cv-0171
- Custom database user - details saved manually. Ask Nick or Anna Marie.
